I'm hoping someone who has been spraying Royal Lac will see this.

I've been finishing a mandolin with Royal Lac. I sprayed the first four coats of RL yesterday and figured I would wait 48 hours then spray another 4 coats. My first question is do I need to scuff sand the RL before the next coats? If so what grit did you use (I was thinking 600)?

For what it's worth I'm really liking this finish so far.

In case you don't get an answer, you might do a search of this forum. Someone (I think it might have been Don Williams) documented at length their successful Royal Lac spray job of a guitar,
Mike

Tim McKnight started the topic on spraying RL and Don was also very active with his spraying effort. That excellent thread is here if anyone is interested: http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=45065

That thread is where I got the finish schedule I'm using and why I'm waiting 2 days before the next 4 coats. Unfortunately they didn't mention whether or not they scuff sanded between spraying sessions. I normally do so that will be my fall back. However, it would be nice if I didn't have to ;)

I have done extensive testing of the Royal lac product over the last couple of years.
Here is a link to a recent thread where I posted my methods and results.

BTW - LMI is now selling Royal Lac.

Robbie, thanks for posting the link and for sharing the results of your work. Your video is what got me started with the RL.

And for those who do not want to go to the link the answer is yes - scuff sand as usual. Robbie used 320, I will use 400 since that's what's on the downdraft table right now.
